*Organic

Please note all our *Organic produce is sourced from Local Farms, Gardens within Melkbosstrand & our Community Gardens.

They have all been carefully handpicked for their quality and the method in which they have been grown. Whilst not all of the farms & gardens are certified Organic they are all people or farmers that choose to farm the right way.

  • zero synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
  • Regenerative planting
  • Sustainable Soil preparation
  • Minimal Packaging
  • Minimal distribution and travel

No synthetic fertilizer is used – Talbourne is a favourite organic fertilizer used by a number of farmers we buy from

No herbicides are used – vegetation is cleared manually and by hand.

Insecticides are used, but only certified organic ones. No crops can be grown with zero intervention of bug control. Biogrow is one of the biggest names in organic insectides & this is the range we use.

Regenerative planting: We practice companion planting, wild garlic amongst the plants, use of natural items like cocopeat, pearlite & vermiculite. No synthetics are used. There are also marigolds amongst the plants which attract insects for pest control.

A lot of the unseasonal produce is grown in tunnels.

A number of crops grow in KZN in winter as the cold is very mild there. Our farmers sister sources produce in KZN, she is a farmer herself & also grows produce for us in winter that does not grow here.

The pineapples come from Eastern Cape.

Dairy

Most dairy comes from Mysthill.

Ben and Mark have over 75 years farming experience and pride themselves on being ‘compassionate’ farmers.

Although our products are not ‘certified’ organic, all our animals are raised as naturally and free as possible.

Their dairy cows are grazed on lucern and grass pastures and are milked only once daily so there is no pressure on high production, thus eliminating problems for them such as mastitis. The calves are fed by their mothers during the day and separated at night and reunited with their mothers again after milking the following morning. This carries on until the calves are approximately 9 months old and weaned.

Meat Products

We have a variety of meat option that range in ethical and sustainability practices.

LMA : Is farmed traditionally

L.A Farms : Farms free-range and grass fed animals only. (Halal)

Mysthill : Their chickens, ducks, sheep and pigs are allowed to roam free to forage, feed and enjoy the green grassy paddocks during the day, then safely penned at night to protect them from predators.

Chicken / Eggs : Fully free-range on a small chicken farm in Ronderberg. Chickens are placed back in coups for the night to protect them from predators. They are free to graze on the organic produce but are also offered grain which they can feed on at their discretion.
