Our Story

In 2010, I spent three months travelling through Sri Lanka. During that time, I noticed a remarkable change in my health and overall wellbeing. I felt energised, balanced and, quite simply, better than I had in years.

After reflecting on what had changed, I realised that a large part of this shift was due to the food I had been eating. In many parts of Sri Lanka, produce is grown and sourced within the local community. Food is harvested seasonally, naturally and without the heavy reliance on pesticides, preservatives or long supply chains. It is simply food, as it should be.

The difference was noticeable — not only in how the food tasted, but in how I felt. My energy improved, my digestion felt lighter, and I genuinely felt healthier. I positively glowed.

From humble beginnings...

When I returned home, I began exploring how this way of sourcing food could be recreated locally.

Over the past five years, The Village Pantry has developed with a focus on supporting local farmers and producers who prioritise quality, freshness and responsible growing practices.

No preservatives, pesticides or fake ingredients!

Our goal is to make food available that tastes like food again — produce that is fresh, nourishing and thoughtfully sourced — while supporting our local community and keeping quality accessible.

... to The Village Pantry today

We believe that when food is grown with care and handled simply, the benefits are felt not only in taste, but in wellbeing too.

The Village Pantry is now a fully functioning shop that can be found opposite the Ou Meul just outside Melkbosstrand.

We invite you to join us in returning to food the way nature intended — clean, nutritious and full of flavour!

We look forward to meeting you.
